Letter of Support Policy

The Carriage Town Historic Neighborhood Association (CTHNA) is solicited for letters of support from time to time, typically in the context of competitive grant applications, Historic District Commission rulings, City of Flint policy decisions, or other issues of concern. Letters of support may be requested by any entity and for any project, policy, issues of concern, or grant proposal that the requester believes may impact quality of life within the boundaries of the Carriage Town Historic Neighborhood.

Because the CTHNA is a volunteer organization, we ask that requests for letters of support are issued as far in advance as possible. Once a request has been submitted, the board may take up to 14 days to provide an initial response. Requests made without at least 14 days notice will not be considered. Depending on the complexity of the issue,  the CTHNA board may need to request additional information from the applicant in order to make a final decision, up to and including participation in a scheduled board meeting.

CTHNA board members will review requests as they are submitted. In order to be approved, requests must:

1. Align with the CTHNA’s mission. “The CTHNA mission is to preserve and promote our neighborhood, to stimulate future reinvestment in the area, and to build a sense of community, making Carriage Town an attractive, clean and safe neighborhood in which to live.”

2. Align with the objectives of the “Imagine Flint Master Plan”

3. Commit to future participation in Carriage Town neighborhood activities in some way.

4. Be presented clearly and far enough in advance for the board to fully consider the project and its implications.
